The Bindery Unit assists in the preservation of materials of the Library. The Unit performs the in-house treatments of mutilated and worn out materials to ensure the longevity of library materials. The Unit also repairs and binds materials for individuals and organisations for a fee.
Mandate

The mandate of the Unit shall be to:

  • Assist in the preservation of materials of the Library. 
  • Perform the in-house treatment of mutilated, worn out and damaged materials to ensure the longevity of library materials. However, if the damaged materials cannot be repaired in-house, due to lack of equipment, then the head of the Department of CollectionManagement and Technical Services, together with the head of the Bindery Unit in consultation with the Librarian have the right to determine whether the item should be sent to a commercial binder. 
  • Render commercial services for a fee as a way of generating funds internally for the Library.

 

Items they undertake are as follows:

  • Paperback materials
  • Damaged library books
  • Worn out books
  • Theses /Dissertations
  • Serials 
  • Past Questions
  • Items not eligible for weeding or rare books
